Ave Maria of Gounod - Bach lyrics

The Ave Maria of Bach-Gounod is a famous composition on Ave Maria's latin text .

The melody of the song was written by the French composer Charles Gounod in 1859, that he thought superimposed on the Prelude No. 1 in C major from Book I of the Well-Tempered Clavier (BWV 846), composed J.S. Bach about 137 years before (Gounod added a joke in a change of the prelude harmony).

There are arrangements for many musical instruments of that work, and among these the most famous is the violin but there are also arrangements for guitar, string quartet, piano, cello and also trombone, as well as for voice.

The Ave Maria is often done in Catholic churches on the occasion of weddings.
